Our Values

Active listening and authentic relationships: We engage multiple perspectives to define issues and solutions.

Possibilities, not paucity: We imagine a liberated, multi-racial society and build toward that vision.

Intersectional analysis: We examine root causes, interconnected systems of power and different groups’ experiences and identities.

Resilient collaboration: We practice kind and direct communication. We are flexible and responsive.

Structure and momentum: We ensure clarity around decision-making, advocate for transparency, build buy-in, and translate ideas into action.

Rachel Mosher-Williams

Rachel has 30 years of experience supporting philanthropy, nonprofits, and other partners in their efforts to build community power to thrive. Her approaches are learning-focused and people-centered, and Rachel’s career revolves around helping leaders develop focused strategy, documented measures of impact, equitable approaches to grantmaking and learning, and internal policies and practices that support a thriving work environment. Rachel has recently served as a Practice Partner Coach for the Equitable Evaluation Initiative, speaks at industry  conferences, and is a published author and editor [link to publications]. Volunteering and board service have been a lifelong complement to Rachel’s professional efforts to advance social and economic justice – she currently serves on the boards of the Hebrew Free Loan Association of Greater Washington and the Justice High School Scholarship Fund.

Before launching RMW Consulting, Rachel lead Community Wealth Partners’ Learning and Impact division; oversaw program planning, evaluation, and thought leadership at the Council on Foundations, directed the research and grantmaking of the Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation at the Aspen Institute; and conducted policy research and evaluation at the Urban Institute. Rachel has an MPA with a concentration in analysis and evaluation from The George Washington University and a BA in English with High Honors from the College of William and Mary, where she was a Presidential Scholar. She, her husband, and her dog Norm live in the northern Virginia suburbs outside Washington, D.C. Rachel is an active volunteer, nonprofit board member, and mother to two grown sons. She reads a lot and gets her existential angst out by running and lifting weights.

Responsive & Collaborative

We co-design with partners, listening and pivoting as needed. We work to make sense of findings together, rather than make decisions for your team.

Adaptive

We have a learning orientation, developing and testing hypotheses with you to ensure findings are relevant to your needs. Our work is to “understand first, solve later.”

Inclusive

Our approaches are highly participatory, elevating as many voices as possible, to reach collective understanding. We center people and community above all else.

Focused

We create clarity amidst complexity and help partners move from inquiry to decision making when the time is right. We ensure that all stakeholders know who makes decisions, when, and how, so ideas turn into action with full transparency.

Working with Us

We are a hopeful and meaning-seeking team. Our approaches to partnership center curiosity, humility, humor, and empathy.
